A much needed update

We continue much the same here at home.  David has been receiving IV's to help hydrate him.  We are also using pedialite to replace electrolytes in his body, and that has seemed to be helpful.   Last week we went to see another doctor that my mom's good friends recommended,  to try to find out what all is going on with David's body.  This doctor is associated with Scripps hospital and specializes in internal medicine, rheumatoid, and skeletal, as well as helping people with difficult conditions.  He is also familiar with Lyme, and has some patients he treats with it.  He was very intense, thorough, and yet gentle with David.  He asked a slew of questions.  We have shared all the labs that have been done and we are going back for follow up and more labs/x-rays tomorrow.  When examining David, the doctor did ultrasounds of his joints, and found that David has calcium deposits in his joints.  This is something a young man should not have, and explains the intense pain.  The Doctor feels there is something else going on with David, a condition, syndrome, or disease that perhaps is being aggravated or showing up at this time. His immune system is not working right and we need to find out what it is!
David has been able to move his legs a bit better, but only is able to stand for a few seconds and has terrible pain.  The doctor said his muscles are terribly
atrophied so he needed to do some exercise.  What can he do?  An exercise bike would be best, the doctor told us.  So we were able to get a bike ( it was given to us!) and put it in David's room.  He is only able to tolerate a few minutes at a time, but it is a start.

We are continuing to pray for healing, for wisdom, and solutions that will help support David's body and start building it back again.  We are blessed to find out this doctor is on David's new insurance.  Praying for provision for all that is needed diagnostically, as well as with supplements and treatments.

We are thankful for answers to prayer:
David has been able to move his legs better
Brittany is graduating from BMT ( Basic Military Training) this weekend
We feel the support and guidance in caring for David

Thank you for your continued prayers and love sent our way.
Jenny

I am praying for him every day, and I know he is close to God's heart. Although we don't always understand why we have to go through hard things, I really believe David is going to come through this and have an amazing testimony and a depth in his spiritual life that will be a great thing and will touch many lives. Be blessed!

I am still praying for you and yours! I hope you get more answers soon and I'm glad to hear that the doctor you like is covered by your insurance. The right doctor can make a world of difference.

(((Hugs))) and continued prayers! We are going through something similar with my 13 yo dear daughter. She had a reaction to antibiotics earlier this year and suffered nerve damage, and her diet has been soo off. We're working with multiple dr's on her allergic reaction, and diet, as well as her muscles taking a nosedive. We have an elliptical machine here, and when you talk about David only being able to tolerate a few minutes at a time it sounds just like what happens with my daughter. But I am like you saying, it's a start. So many two steps forward and one step back this year. Just gotta keep focused on the forward progress!!!

I hope and pray the dr's find the things that are wrong with Davids immune system soon. It's so hard seeing our children sick and not knowing what to do.

Continuing to pray for y'all.  I'm so thankful that you updated, even though you don't feel there is much change.  I just appreciate hearing from you and seeing how things are going.

I'm glad Brittany is graduating from Basic. I know that will be a little off David's mind, although I realize he will continue to pray for her as she moves forward.

Praying for the docs wisdom and insight!

At least Scripps is closer than Santa Barbara!  I do hope this doctor can follow through with diagnosis and treatment that brings David back to health.  In the meantime, an exercise bike sounds like a good start -- a few minutes at a time should help to rebuild the muscles!  You're in my thoughts, and it's good to see this update!  (((((hugs)))))

Thanks for the update... I know that prayers are always helpful, but I now I feel my prayers will be "updated," too :) I pray that the new doctor would be able to look at the things with a fresh perspective and be able to find out what is going on, that David will be able to exercise a little but more each day, and that YOU would get all of the care and encouragement you need as you work so hard to care for him! What a great momma you are :) Also, I am exciting to hear that Brittany will be graduating; that will add some joy to life! Will she get to come home then, and visit? That would be great!

Praying Jenny! I know your heart must be breaking. I can handle just about anything other than seeing my kiddos in pain. Praying that this new doctor will find the key to alleviating David's pain, so he can be the active vibrant young man he is on the inside.

Any update is so much appreciated as I/we continue to pray without ceasing for dear David! I hope you were able to get someone to help him downstairs. If we were over there, we'd have been there in a flash! Our comfort is in knowing that Jesus is right there with David, IN David. I really wish I could hug you, Jenny. Not like that would help at all, but still.

your son might have early onset arthritis-my husband has had it since he was a teenager and they didn't diagnosis it till he was an adultHe has had 10 surgeries on his knees-of course replacements. My hubby was 6"

5" and I don't think he's as tall now. Anyway the dr. wasn't sure with the dx until he did the 2nd knee replacement in his 50's. When we told his family his mom said,"well, you didn't get it from my side of the family." The dr. said that it was inherited but could have been a relative way back when. I heard of ghost genes on PBS

they did a show on it a year of so ago and it was very interesting. My hubby is 58yrs old now and still walks and golfs but had to take early retirement from the phone company about 8yrs ago now.

Something sweet.
Thank you for the update Jenny..I know that this is not easy on both of you and both you are in my thoughts and prayers on a daily basis..it is good about David and the bike as this will do him the world of good..it is so important that he fights back even if it has to be in small steps for now..it will stop his body from freezing up completely...I know how difficult that will be for him because of the pain..but he must hold his course. You are a wonderful mother and should never forget that..it takes a special kind of courage to do this..as no one would want to see their son have to go through such pain, I know your love devotion helps David no end. I also know it would be easy to despair..you must never yield to it. Having an auto immune disease myself I know how difficult that can be..its sometimes very difficult..but manageable. you have to take one step at a time..that way nothing is ever quite so bad, you must never think that all is lost..it is not..now or ever. I wish I could do more for David and you as you are such wonderful people and have become rather special to me. Keep the faith for the both you and remember you are both loved very much always.

Love

Andreas

SOOO grateful you took the time to update.

There are a few things David can do that are non-stressful to his bones/joints:

1. He can pretend he is holding bicycle wheels in each hand and circle in that motion, as if to keep the wheels turning on the bike. It helps arm strength.
2. He can lay on his back and suck in the abdominal muscles, holding them as long as possible.
3. Point and flex feet. Also bend and unbend upper leg, when lying on his side. Flex and point a foot while same knee is bent.
4. Pull (one leg at a time) a knee to his chest and hold, if possible.

Some may be too much for the joints, but they are each low impact stretches.

Prayers from here abound. xo

Merciful and gracious God, Sustain and keep Jenny & David so they might trust in You and rest under the shadow of Your wings. Continue your life, lovingkindness, and light to them for they are Yours in Christ Jesus, so they might feast on You always, but especially in times of darkness and dryness. ~ Psalm 36:7-10 ♥
