A birthday, summer days, and David

We have been having some hot summer days of late.  Since I am at home with our David all the time, I have been a bit more intentional about taking a few breaks when Bob is home or when a friend can come over and stay with David.  Sometimes Bob practically kicks me out.

One day I went down and sat at the harbor and watched the boats, paddleboards, waverunners and all the people going in and out of the harbor. Then I went and bought some new sandals, as my everyday ones were falling apart.  I finished with a walk overlooking the beach, up through a golf course, and then though the park.  I saw a beautiful schooner that had been moored off the beach, put up its sails and head out to sea.  It was a perfect picture, set over the golf links close to sunset with the afternoon breeze blowing.  The long walk helped me to unwind when I was feeling tense over David's health.  Turns out he had a difficult few hours and Bob was glad I wasn't at home as he consulted the Marine Medic next door.  He advised doing the Pedialyte to rehydrate, checked David's rapid pulse, and labored breathing, and just set our minds at rest.  This was the day after an IV, and we have found that they were giving David the IV's too fast for his body to handle.  This last week they gave the IV over several hours time, and it was much better for David.  I also looked up online,  and found that having sweats is "normal" too.  I just feel bad he has to put up with so much.

One evening I drove to my mom's home and sat out on the lower deck with her, looking at the pelicans fly by, noticing two large water spouts from a whale off shore, enjoying the fuchsias all abloom in the lower patio.  I visited and rested for a little over an hour, and that pause was refreshing.  My mom sent me home with this perfect, pink, full blown rose, which I enjoyed for several days.

We also arranged to go out for lunch the day before my birthday.  One of David's friends was coming over to stay with him, but came down with a cough.  I am thankful he realized that David doesn't have the immune system to be around that right now so thought I would have to cancel or have my mom and sister here.  But, thankfully, another friend, William, was available and he came over for a couple hours.  My mom took us to this lovely french restaurant...it was like a little vacation, and so classic.  I just loved it.

My sister Mary and my mom.  Mary and I both ordered the curry chicken salad, it was sooooo good.  I ate every bite!

So elegant with white table clothes, red roses and small lamps at each table.  It felt a bit like one of the English or French period films I enjoy.

The fruit, ice cream, and caramel was perfect on a hot summer day.

I had hot tea, Mary had a cappuccino with foam, and my mom a latte. I felt spoiled with such a nice lunch, company, and presents!

We checked out the patio after, and it looked lovely too, though I am glad that we sat indoors, for the atmosphere and the cool on a hot day.

We face away from the sunsets, but enjoy the glow of the evenings

My sweet guy.  I say he has a bit of a French look at times, as shaving is not always a priority.  We think that the antibiotic shots may be helping!  It has been a week since we started and he is feeling a small improvement.  The pain patches provide constant care, but as he was started with a small one due to his weight, they do not seem to be giving much more relief.  We will have to see if he can have a stronger one next time.  Having the meds going through his skin and muscle, rather than his digestive system, seems to be helpful too, though he has yet to gain a big appetite.

Bob made us all a yummy fish dinner for my birthday.

Red snapper, with brown rice (David had quinoa), cabbage, fresh tomatoes from the garden parsley and lime.  It was delicious!  David asked for seconds.

The table, full of cards, presents, and flowers.  See the little baby photo?  I received a photo of Daniel and Heidi's baby, Cadence, from their recent ultrasound.  So very dear to my heart.  It is amazing to see our dear grandchild even as he is forming in the womb!  Yes, it is a boy.  We do seem to do boys around here.  My husband is from a family of two boys, we had three boys, and this makes three grandsons...Malachi is 17 months, his baby brother, Brason, is due in the next two weeks, and Cadence is due Dec. 25th.

Thankful for the light airy view to look out at each day.

My boy is up and taking a bath/shower ( he has to sit in the tub, but prefers the shower cascading down) .  He says he feels antsy, and wants to do something as he is tired of being laid up and doing so little.  It is hard to type as his hands hurt, so I am going to go get out the watercolors and see if creating some little pictures might be satisfying this afternoon.

Happy Birthday to you!!! What a beautiful restaurant, and the food looks sooo yummy!!!!

I'm still keeping your family in my prayers. Every time I hear about what David is going through I swear it is so close to what we're going through here. We aren't to the stage of IV's yet (hoping and praying daily that that won't happen at all), but just getting my 13 yo dd to eat and keep hydrated is like half of my daily struggle!

Your day at the harbor sounds like it was just wonderful, and relaxing! And your picture taking is beautiful!!!

The ultrasound picture is cute. New babies are so exciting!

I'm glad the shots seem to be helping a bit more. I think the shots are better too because they don't go through the digestive system.
One day at a time..little by little he'll feel better. We'll keep on praying!

Your view from the balcony is Gorgeous! How nice to look outside and see what you see!
Happy Wednesday.

Happy Birthday my dear friend! I was so glad to read this post for it warmed my heart my deeply, I am delighted to hear that David is making good progress..I know its slow but its a good start. Its always the way with new meds and once David's body adjusts to it I am hoping the recovery will be all the more swift. I know how difficult it is as my immune system is rather low too so I am with you all the way on that one. You are such a wonderful mum to him and he loves you so much for it and in my eyes you deserve the best birthday ever..had you been in London I would have made sure that you were spoilt all day!
Even though the great pond divides us I always feel so close to you and would like to do something for your birthday too..recently I bought three new rose bushes for the garden..I would like to name one after you and one after David so you both will both have a place in my beloved garden. It will be a few weeks before they get planted but nothing would give me joy than to do this for you..the ones i have in mind are rather rare and rarely seen in anyones garden...only the best for both of you!!
I will of course keep you in both my thoughts and prayers.

Andreas xx

I'm so grateful for even the small improvements David is experiencing.  It also looks like you had a beautiful birthday!  Grateful for the bits of respite you are getting.  I am continuing to pray for you all.

We've been experiencing hot days around here, too.  We're expecting a cool front, which means we will have highs of only high 80s/low90s!  But even that is nice for a change!

Glad that you had a nice birthday, and that David is doing a little bit better. Our family has a pretty good mix of boys and girls. My best friend married a man who was one of 4 boys. They had 3 boys and a girl. Now they have 4 grandsons and 1 grand-daughter.

Jenny, I have prayed continuously for all of you, particularly David. I do hope that his treatments help him and that maybe a bit stronger pain med will relieve him of the pain. Did he do the watercolor painting after all?  I know this is a tough time for you and I'm so happy you do get to go out now and then, especially for your birthday! Bless those friends who come to sit with David, and God bless Bob as he cares for him, too, and that he cooks yummy, healthy meals! Hugs and blessings to you!

@sailing5 -  Thank you for the birthday wishes and thoughts. I enjoy seeing all your family is doing. It is so beautiful in the Bahamas!
@spinner_mom -  Thank you for your prayers! So sorry your daughter is going through so much as well, we will continue to pray. I have been reading a book called "The Maker's diet" that someone gave us, it is helpful for the healing needed. We are already doing much of what it says, but always good to find out more.
@Elizabethmarie_1 -  Thank you for the Birthday mini and the prayers!
@cerwindoris -  Thank you!
@andreas_d -  Oh my Andreas, you bring tears to my eyes with your kindness. You give me hope that the same sort of depth, to give love and kindness freely, will be birthed out of David's suffering. Seeing you live life fully is wonderful. Naming roses after us is such a gift! You would have loved to see the big smile on David's face when I told him! Just the boost he needed on a hard day.
@pettybunch -  Thank you Nina. You are always so loving and encouraging. Our days are not as warm as yours, but with the humidity and David's room usually about 90-95, I feel like I am melting.
@ata_grandma -  Thankful for the support and prayers as always!
@Richgem -  Thank you so much Gail. It is a blessing to have your prayers and concern and know that God is working out good from this. We go on Monday for results from all the tests. Hoping for only solutions.

@ABAHM - Thanks for the book idea. We're trying to follow the Fit for Life book with her right now. Combining the right foods and following a pattern is just amazing for digestion. I'm going to pick up The Makers Diet also and see what else we could be doing. Hope you are having a good day today!

Happy Birthday!!
So thankful to hear family, friends, & neighbors are all rallying to support David (and you) so you might have those breaks. The luncheon you had with your mom and sisters looks so lovely. Continuing to pray for David to know God's grace and strength day by day... Deuteronomy 33:25.
